If, three years ago somebody
had said, You will soon own two special needs llamas.
I would have told them that they were crazy. Betsy came to me right
after Thanksgiving in 2005. Two friends bought her for me as an
early Christmas present because her previous owner was talking about
shooting her because she was useless and a waste of good hay.
She was afraid of traffic noise, any throwing motion, a halter,
and many other things because of a variety of different types of
harsh treatment and abuse. Today shes calm and very sweet
having overcome her fears.
In August of 2006 Muffin was given to me because Betsy needed a
llama girlfriend. Muffin was weaned too early, sold at a pet exchange
with a bottle, and raised in a back yard with children, dogs, and
people. Because of this, she is a recovering Aberrant Behavior Syndrome
(ABS) llama. |
Shes shown no serious aggression
in several months and Im very proud of her for the progress
shes made. Muffin is 99% trustworthy, gentle, kind, and sweet
but 1% unpredictable, which means that I always keep an eye on Muffin
for my safety and her wellbeing.
Today Im happy that I have two special needs llamas. Since
I keep them for personal pleasure instead of utilitarian purposes,
they are my pets.

This is Squash Blossom upon coming to SELR -
her halter had been allowed to grow into her nose. |

This is Blossom now! She is happily living with SELR rescues Holly
Berry and Cover Girl in Covington, GA. Thank you Steve and Debbie
Aldridge, for giving our former "poster child" such a great home!

Blizzard is one happy guy!
Poor Blizzard never saw another llama until he came to SELR. Now
he has a new llama family.
You'd be smiling too, if you got to live with Corinne Hewett and
her other SELR adoptees, Kiara and Moses in lovely Tennessee! |
Kiara and Moses (a/k/a "Mr. Frosty") lounge by the lake with Blizzard.
They know that not every llama has it THIS good!
Here's a close up of Moses. The Hewitts love their llamas. Just
look at those faces! |

Athena has a new best friend - and his
name is Cupid! Athena's new Mom saw this little black and white
girl and it was love at first sight. Cupid thought she was pretty
great, too!
Athena now lives with Katie & Jimmy Futrelle and a host of other
critters in Georgia. |

|
| Shania is queen of the hill in her new
home! Or is that queen of the hay roll? Whatever - sometimes you
just have to make do with what you've got! Shania, her daughter
Aspen and their buddy Neeko were all adopted from SELR and live
in beautiful Tennessee with Carol Stewart. |

Cappy, Pete and Eli relocated from Georgia
to Florida to live with Winnie & Steve House and their alpacas.
These guys had been together all their lives before being surrendered
to SELR (Pete is Cappy's son). It is wonderful that they can continue
on to live happily ever after with their buddies and with such great
folks! |
